Spanish health officials have reported a significant number of fatalities linked to an intense heatwave currently affecting the country. Reports from several outlets indicate that the death toll has been recorded between 200 and 213 people over the past few days as temperatures rose above 42C.
The Mirror reports that figures from Spain's Daily Mortality Monitoring System were used to confirm 213 deaths during a three-day window. Similarly, NDTV reported a count of 212 fatalities recorded over a four-day period, noting that mainland Spain is experiencing its highest average daily temperatures in June since at least 1950.
The New York Times reports that the health ministry estimated approximately 200 deaths have occurred since Sunday. While the heatwave remains concentrated in Spain, weather forecasts indicate that conditions across Europe are expected to remain significantly above normal through Thursday.
